What does the Advances in Neonatal Care (ANC) Editorial Board do?
ANC Editorial Board members have knowledge and expertise in neonatal nursing and publishing, as author or peer reviewer, or with Editorial Board experience. Editorial Board members serve as an advisory group to establish goals, direction, and policy recommendations for ANC.
What kind of volunteer is NANN looking for?
- Must be a NANN member
- Prior experience in reviewing manuscripts and/or publishing in peer reviewed journals
- Master's degree or higher is preferred
- Staff nurses welcome (staff nurse representatives do not need a master's degree or higher)
- Ability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively
An ANC Editorial Board member shall not serve in any other Board, Council, or committee/task force chair role role at the same time unless it is an appointment by virtue of the position held. If currently serving in a Board, Council, or committee/task force chair role, a volunteer must complete their term of service prior to serving on the ANC Editorial Board. If currently serving on the ANC Editorial Board, a volunteer must complete their term of service or resign from the ANC Editorial Board before serving on the Board, Council, or as a committee/task force chair. Service on a committee, task force, or as a SIG facilitator may be made upon approval by the designated leadership body – either the NANN Board of Directors or NANN-AP Council.
Term
Five years with an option to renew for an additional five-year term.
Qualifications
ANC Editorial Board members must be currently practicing in neonatal nursing care in a role such as clinical care, education, research, administration, or consulting. At its discretion, the NANN Board of Directors may make exceptions to this requirement.
Responsibilities

A. Assist in the development and implementation of policies to enhance quality and facilitate journal publication
B. Develop and evaluate goals for ANC consistent with the strategic plan of NANN
C. Develop methods to effectively solicit manuscripts for potential publication and to enhance the quality of manuscripts submitted
1. Participate actively in manuscript solicitation process: solicit manuscripts from colleagues, students, and leaders in neonatal nursing
2. Attend conferences and solicit authors, writing a brief report for the journal
D. Participate in the journal evaluation process
E. Assist with manuscript review
F. Peer reviews provide constructive feedback to the authors and editor
G. Serve as a mentor to an author who may need assistance in preparing a manuscript or revising a manuscript based upon reviewer feedback
H. Participate in quarterly Editorial Board meetings held throughout the year
I. Assume responsibility for special projects as designated by the editor(s), including serving as an appeal reviewed, as necessary, for rejected manuscripts
J. May coordinate special sections of journal as assigned, including solicitation and review of manuscripts
What is the time commitment?
ANC Editorial Board members serve for a term length of five years, with an estimated 40-75 hours of work per year or 4-6 hours per month. Volunteers are expected to remain engaged throughout the duration of their terms and should complete all work as outlined in the section above.
