Newborn Pain Assessment and Management Guideline for Practice: Call for Reviewers
NANN is seeking two subject matter experts (SMEs) to review the updated and revised Newborn Pain Assessment and Management Guideline for Practice, 4th Ed, starting this fall. Subject-matter Experts should have comprehensive knowledge of the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment (non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic) of pain in neonates. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the content is up to date and reflects the latest evidence-based practices, guidelines, and standards of neonatal care.

Description of Role
Subject-matter expert reviewers review the previously created drafts for content, soundness of recommendations, strength of evidence, and flow, and provide feedback to the authors in the form of comments either on the draft itself or via email. Reviewers will read the previously created drafts and note anything that differs from their knowledge or experience, as well as items that are redundant, off-topic, or missing. Because reviewers haven’t been involved in the research and drafting, they have a unique, high-level view of the project as a whole.
Role Qualifications
Candidates should be NANN members with previous writing experience and will possess these qualifications:
- Prerequisites: Evidence of reviewing and/or editing skills, teaching experience, presenting experience.
- Development of educational materials.
- A passion to advance the science and practice of neonatal nursing.
- Can commit to the time required to complete the project successfully.
- The ability to write and communicate clearly.
- The ability to meet deadlines.
Reviewers are expected to participate in an orientation training call as well as any conference calls regarding discussions of best practices, content, and project planning. Reviewers are required to stay on track with the scheduled timeline.
Work will begin in September 2026. The estimated duration of the commitment is 3-4 months.
