What does the Neonatal APRN Role Advocacy Toolkit Task Force do?
The Neonatal APRN Role Advocacy Toolkit Task Force will:
- Construct the format of the toolkit and obtain NANN-AP Council feedback/approval.
- Create the toolkit content and obtain NANN-AP Council feedback/approval.
- Develop recruiting techniques, role and staff advocacy templates, and mentoring strategies for retention - supporting documents will be included.

As the landscape of neonatal care is changing, which includes the increased demand of neonatal APRNs in the workforce, the Neonatal APRN Role Advocacy Toolkit will be an essential resource to help guide in the areas of recruitment, retention, mentoring, scope of practice, and role security. Strategies to meet the needs of our patient population and their families, improve access to care, improve overall outcomes, and empower the future of neonatal APRNs will be included.
What kind of volunteer is NANN looking for?
Seeking professionals to join us in creating this essential resource, who have a passion for neonatal care and understanding/expertise of APRN role advocacy. We are looking for volunteers who represent various facets of advanced practice neonatal care and consider themselves experts in their roles, are aware of critical staffing issues and scope of practice, and are leaders in education for these roles.
Qualifications
- Must be a NANN-AP member and one of the following:
- Experienced neonatal CNS
- Experienced neonatal nurse practitioner
- Experienced director/coordinator of a neonatal APRN education program (CNS or NNP)
- Neonatal APRN expert at a systems level (manager, director) directly involved in building neonatal APRN staff, hiring, and improving access of care
Responsibilities
A. Prior NANN/NANN-AP volunteer experience is necessary.
B. Ability to met key deadlines.
What is the time commitment?
Minimum time commitment is one year with the minimum expectation of monthly meetings and any additional meetings as required for project completion. Estimate majority of the work to take place between December 2025-July 2026.
