When changing your central lines, if you have lipids Y'd into your TPN are you changing your lipid lines every 24 hours down to the Y, and then changing the Y with the TPN lines every 72 hours? We been struggling with the thought that everthing with lipids running in it should be changed every 24 hours, but don't want to change all lines that frequently
3 Comments - The 2009 CDC Guidelines were kind of vague to me but I thought the INS standards were more clear cut. We change our IL & HAF solution & tubing q24 hours
We are looking and new VAP bundles and reduction practices and I was wondering how often do you change out your suction cannisters and tubing?
5 Comments - our VAP prevention Bundle starts with meticulous hand hygiene oral care-oral care kits or sterile water, we replace our neosuckers atleast q24hrs we have separate suction canisters for ETT and oral suctions and we replace all canisters and tubing every M,W,F and PRN Ambu bags are changed every Friday for ventilated infants
Does anyone use a double lumen UVC? If so, how do you maintain it (flush, how often etc,) Any special nursing considerations? Thank you, Margaret McDonnell
3 Comments - The med line is "Y'd" into the second port tubing. Our IV tubing (even tubing infusing TPN) is changed every 72 hours. Exceptions include interlipids, med tubing, any tubing with visible blood, and when the tubing has been disconnected for any reason

We currently have a standing order for cares every 2-4 hours, and typically our feedings are every three hours. So, our 24-28 week babies on trophic feeds are handled every 3 hours, and if they are NPO they are handled every 4 hours. Occasionally, some nurses are able to make a case for a particularly unstable ELBW infant to be handled q 6 hours. I was wondering if q 6 hour hands on assessments could be a standard for our ELBW infants?
We are proposing to go to a non bifurcated tube and have the bifurcation on the extension tubing, yet some staff are preferring to stay with the bifurcated feeding tube

Because the RNs do not have a protocol for managing the epidural (operating the pump or changing out the medication bags etc), the anesthesiologist changes out the bags and changes the bags
