Essentials in NICU Orientation Call for Contributors and Editors
NANN is excited to announce their Essentials in NICU Orientation Course. This 13-module course will provide a comprehensive orientation to neonatal nursing care, helping new nurses identify basic elements of a neonate’s physical assessment and pathophysiology. This course will be housed on iLearn, NANN’s Learning Management System (LMS). We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to curate this course!
Editors will be expected to collaborate with both project managers as well as contributors to ensure all material, revisions, and writings meet the highest quality professional standards. They will also be expected to ensure timely delivery of final products to project managers by working closing and communicating clearly with their colleagues and providing guidance on materials where needed.
Qualifications
Preferred editor candidates will be NANN members with previous writing experience and will possess these qualifications:
- Must be in a neonatal nursing role, such as CNSs, NNPs, experienced staff nurses, nurse leader/manager/director.
- Greater than 5 years’ experience in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Certification preferred.
- Prerequisites: Evidence of writing and editing skills, teaching experience, speaker experience.
- Competent in use of adult learning principles when developing course format/approach.
- Additional experience with activities such as precepting, quality improvement, or education is required.
- Development of educational materials.
- Skilled in simulation content/training desired.
- A passion to advance the science and practice of neonatal nursing.
- Can commit to the time required to successfully complete the project (the time commitment for this project is approximately one year).
- The ability to write and communicate clearly.
- The ability to meet deadlines.
Contributors will be the subject matter expert (SME) and will be responsible for the creation of accurate and up to date content and ensure that the information reflects the latest evidence-based practices, guidelines, and the highest standards of neonatal care. SMEs are expected to collaborate with editors and managers on the modules, communicate efficiently, and ensure content promotes a multidisciplinary approach.

Both Editors and Contributors are expected to participate in orientation training calls as well as any conference calls regarding discussions of best practices. Both are required to stay on track with the scheduled timeline.
Compensation for Editors and Contributors will be provided. Specific compensation details will be given upon application review.
The group will begin work in October 2023. The estimated length of the commitment is 15 months using the projected timeline below.
